GTW 789 (Toledo Lang - BW&L Lansing)

GTW 798 is northbound at mp34.1 Denby on a cold, damp April Sunday morning. His lead unit is in CNNA paint, but all of the following units (5936, 6415, 6415, 6415, 4921) are in GTW paint. Today's train has loaded CSXT and NYC bottom dump coal hoppers of C&OBU coal bound for the Board of Water and Light power plant at Lansing, MI. This coal came from either a Kentucky or West Virginia mine. We can expect fewer coal trains coming from Appalachian mines as stricter air quality standards are about to make their high BTU coal less desirable than Powder River Basin coal, which has a lower sulphur content.

Denby is where the Shore Line sub crosses the old Conrail McLouth Spur to the former McLouth Steel Rolling mill about ¾ mile south of GTW Edison Yard. The spur comes off of the northbound main of the Conrail Detroit Line, which is delineated by the telegraph line on the right. 09:50 4/6/00.
