Penn Central GG1 4929

One operational advantage of Penn Central's advent was its ability to run electric locomotives from Washington to New Haven without an engine change at Pennsylvania Station. At Rye, NY, we find GG1 4929, the first unit of PRR's last GG1 order from the Altoona shops, leading a New York-bound consist of smooth-sided Penn Central (nee PRR) coaches. On this cold day in early April 1971, a steam leak from under the first car is very much in evidence.
